The holidays are my favourite time of the year because it allows me to reflect on the previous year’s goals and plan for the following year. It’s also a the perfect time to see family and friends and, in Cape Town, we are so fortunate that the weather is great; I look forward to sunset dinners and beachside breakfasts!
I’ve always loved Christmas. When my brother and I were children, we’d rush to the tree in the morning to see what our parents had gotten us (my dad messed up when I was about 5 years old by leaving a ring in the car – it ended up being my gift, so Santa wasn’t real in our home. I also don’t believe that my parents were ever, truly, convincing that he existed!). When we got older, Brent and I would sit back to back wrapping one another’s gifts. We did it up until the year I got married- it’s a sibling tradition that I really miss!
I should tell you that my family and I have decided that we were not exchanging gifts this year. We want to be wise with our spending and feel that a meal at Christmas as well as time with one another are gifts and blessings enough. We promised that when there are small children in the family (God willing) we will start the tradition of Christmas gifting again. However, that does not mean that I don’t have things that I’d like so, below are my three items I would have requested.
1. A Fitbit
I’ve really done well at maintaining a healthy lifestyle this year. I don’t always have time to go to the gym but would love to track my heart rate and steps, daily, because am generally quite active.
This is my inner child expressing herself! I’ve always loved rollerblading and ice skating. I figured that I’d be able to rollerblade as fast as Wesley can run so we could spend quality time doing some cardio! Yes, it’s really my idea of a good hang out.
3. And iPad
Wesley keeps trying to talk me out of getting one because I have my iMac but I explained to him that, unlike his laptop, the computer cannot be taken to bed to click through a few things. I love making notes when I read, so an iPad would be perfect for that purpose. I know that Pinterest and Instagram would be fun scrolling through on a bigger screen as well.
These are the three, physical, items I’d like to own. What are your family’s traditions around Christmas and gifting? And what would you like to receive this year?
For me, I am counting my blessings of 2108, many of them being gifts, themselves. I’d also like to take the time to wish all of my readers a happy holiday and a blessed celebration over Christmas.
